Star Wars: Episode IX Director J.J. Abrams Possibly Seeking Massive Overall Deal With Disney

J.J. Abrams is set for a truly ambitious endeavor. The Star Wars: Episode IX director is reportedly looking to land a huge megadeal with a major media company, which might be Disney.

According to Variety, Abrams "is on the hunt for the kind of super nova-sized deal that would encompass films, television series, digital content, music, games, consumer products, and theme park opportunities." The Star Trek: IntoDarkness director aims to get a specific number of "put pictures" which would give him guaranteed spots in the studio's film slate.

Not surprisingly, certain studios are interested in taking Abrams' deal. The director is reportedly meeting with Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger and Disney studio chairman Alan Horn. In addition to that, Universal Filmed Entertainment Group chairman Jeff Shell and Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley are also eager to work with Abrams. Interestingly, Warner Bros. Entertainment CEO Kevin Tsujihara is also hoping to negotiate with the Bad Robot founder.

It's certainly an ambitious deal but there are speculations that Disney is preparing to nail the deal with Abrams. After all, he is already responsible for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the upcoming Episode IX. It is possible that Disney wants to keep Abrams so he could continue working on future Star Wars projects.

Abrams is known for his work on films like Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation and Super 8. He also produced the Cloverfield movies. His most recent work is producing Overlord and directing Episode IX.

Star Wars: Episode IX will premiere on December 20, 2019.
