Star Wars: Episode IX Adds Lord Of The Rings Star Dominic Monaghan

A hobbit in space! Dominic Monaghan, who played the mischievous Meriadoc "Merry" Brandybuck in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, is reuniting with J.J. Abrams in Star Wars: Episode IX.

According to Deadline, Monaghan's role in the highly anticipated sequel has not yet been revealed. Nevertheless, the former Lost actor expressed his excitement about being a part of the Star Wars franchise.

"The galaxy far far away has had almost as much influence as the one I live in, so I am delighted to be involved," he said. Monaghan had previously admitted that he wanted to be in The Force Awakens.

Monaghan certainly seems like a great fit for Episode IX. After all, the English actor is known for his versatility and should be able to take on any role Abrams throws at him. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more of this guy next year.

Monaghan is not the only actor joining Episode IX who has previously collaborated with Abrams. The Americans star Keri Russell, who is also confirmed for an undisclosed role, had worked with the director on the TV series Felicity. With that in mind, it is possible that Abrams will be calling on his other constant collaborators for key roles in the sequel.

Episode IX has previously confirmed that Logan actor Richard E. Grant and former Doctor Who star Naomi Ackie will be joining the cast. The returning stars include Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Billie Lourd, Joonas Suotamo, and Lupita Nyong'o.

Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled for release on December 20, 2019.
