Star Wars boasts some of the best characters in the history of pop culture and when you think about the beloved science-fiction property, the first thing that comes to mind are the Jedi who have been central figures since the beginning of the franchise.

Since its debut over 45 years ago, we've been introduced to several notable Jedi warriors, from Luke Skywalker to Ahsoka Tano and fans have long been debating which character has the right to be called the superior Jedi of them all.

Well, Dave Filoni finally settles the score and his answer will most definitely surprise you.

Star Wars: Anakin Skywalker is the Greatest Jedi of All Time According to Dave Filoni

In a featurette titled Journey To Ahsoka (via The Direct) which hypes up the arrival of the Rosario Dawson-led series, the Star Wars showrunner said that the forthcoming series tells the story of Ahsoka who was taken under Anakin's wing aka the "greatest Jedi of all time".

Filoni said: "We’re telling the story of this character who’s been trained by the greatest Jedi of all time in Anakin Skywalker."

Anakin is certainly a questionable pick, especially if you consider his dark past. Although the former cybernetically-enhanced Sith Lord redeemed himself during the end of the original trilogy, helping vanquish Emperor Palpatine (until temporarily), he did some pretty nasty things over the course of his journey, most notably the slaughter of the younglings in Revenge of the Sith.

But of course, one could argue that he has always been the "chosen one" so I guess Filoni's remarks hold some weight to them.

Ahsoka is hitting Disney+ on August 23rd.
