Christopher Nolan is undoubtedly one of the film industry's most influential minds but before his revolutionary projects gained critical acclaim, moviegoers were made aware of his body of work through DC's The Dark Knight trilogy which is still regarded as some of the best superhero films ever created.

It's been over 10 years since Nolan touched a comic book film project but fans are still clamoring for him to return to the genre, or at least do a science-fiction epic like Star Wars.

The prospect may sound incredibly tempting to reject but the 52-year-old screen icon seems undecided on the possibility.

Speaking with Hugo Décrypte, the Oppenheimer filmmaker discussed his directorial future, saying that he still sees himself making movies in the next 10 years. However, it appears that he's no longer interested in doing another comic book project, simply saying "no" when asked about the potential.

On the subject of him ever helming a Star Wars project, Nolan surprisingly refused to make a comment. This led to fans storming social media and many of them have begun campaigning for the renowned director to join the franchise. Check out some of the reactions below:

In case you didn't know, Nolan is actually an avid fan of Star Wars and credits the franchise for inspiring him to pursue film. George Lucas' use of practical effects was also his driving force for using the same method in his films.

However, he previously stated that he has no interest in directing a project set in a galaxy far, far away simply because he's "afraid to touch" the material. Now, whether or not that changes remains to be seen but I think we can all agree that a Chris Nolan-directed Star Wars film would blow all of us away.

Meanwhile, Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer hits cinemas on July 21.
