Star Wars: Billie Lourd Says Mourning Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds' Deaths Was 'Brutal'

Losing a parent is an excruciating experience but it's even more difficult when your parent is a Star Wars legend. Billie Lourd has opened up about her experience after the tragic passing of her mother Carrie Fisher and grandmother Debbie Reynolds, saying it was a "brutal" period for her.

In 2016, Fisher passed away from cardiac arrest. Just a day later, Reynolds also passed after suffering a stroke. Amidst the tragedy, Lourd was the one who shared updates on her family and she admitted on the New Daypodcast that it was not an easy task.

"It was brutal. It was really, really brutal, and I still hesitate and stutter because it's really hard for me," Lourd said. She then pointed out that media didn't make things easy for her.

"Everything I say gets turned into some headline that I didn't mean," Lourd said before citing an example.

"There's this one where I said something, and it was like three months after she died. I didn't know what the f--k I was talking about or who the f--k I was or what was going on. And I said something like, 'Well, now that they're gone, I get to just be Billie,'" she said.

Lourd explained that that particular interview was taken out of context and reiterated that she truly loves and misses Fisher and Reynolds.

"They're my favorite people in the world. I miss my mom every day and my grandma, but really, my mom the most ... She was the greatest, funniest person ever. She was my best f--king friend ever. There's no one who will ever be as funny as she is. She was just - she is amazing," Lourd said.

There is little doubt that everyone feels the same way about Fisher. Sadly, our own feeling of loss might not be as great as what Lourd had to go through in the past.

Lourd played Lieutenant Kaydel Ko Connix in the Star Wars sequel movies. She also portrayed the younger version of Princess Leia in Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker.
