Following the critical success of its freshmen run, a lot of fans are now looking forward to the second and final season of the Star Wars series Andor, especially as the events will now be inching closer to Rogue One this time around.

Considering that the upcoming season will have more tie-ins to the film, there have been a lot of questions about whether some of our favorite characters that were introduced in that movie will show up in the show's sophomore run.

Fortunately, it sounds like that will indeed be the case as it looks like we could expect some familiar faces to show up in the second season.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Tony Gilroy teased that there will be some major cameos from Rogue One who will show up in the second season of Andor and promised that some are going to be "surprising."

"Of course. Yeah, I mean, yes. The answer is yes. And there are some that are inevitable, there are some that are surprising, there are some that we probably can’t get for various reasons," he said.

"But, you kinda know who’s in the stew there. You certainly know who’s gonna be on Yavin 4. [Cassian] and Mon Mothma have a scene together in Rogue [One]. So yeah…"

Gilroy continued, "And the calendar’s inevitable, in some ways, for the people in this convention, for the people who really know this five years, there’s some big events on the calendar that we have to pay attention to. And we will."

It is exciting to hear that we will be seeing several familiar faces in the upcoming season which makes sense given the direction of where it is going and it won't feel like a generic fan service for the purpose of pleasing the audience.

As they've shown in the first season, Gilroy and his writing team do not always behold themselves to fan service and they include characters that make sense to the story and there is trust that they can deliver that in a satisfying way.

So far, the second season is still in production although Gilroy has halted his duty as showrunner while the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike is ongoing. We should be hearing more updates in the coming months.
