Star Wars and Birds of Prey Actor Ewan McGregor Thinks Selfies are ‘Soulless’

Star Wars' Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Ewan McGregor might be used to his life under the spotlight, but it seems like the Hollywood celebrity finds a few rituals a little bit ridiculous. That includes having selfies with his adoring fanbase.

Ever since the dawn of smartphones, interactions with fans have changed to short but intimate conversations to hurried selfies with celebrities. McGregor doesn't like the selfies, saying that he'd rather speak with fans than disconnected selfies. Speaking in an interview with Sunday Sitdown, the actor spoke about the run that he's had to try to promote Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, and while McGregor is happy to speak with fans, he says he isn't so eager for selfies.

"You stand and you take the photograph and they're happy and off they go. It's a soulless thing. There's no exchange of anything. Before it used to be, ‘Oh I saw you in that movie.' Even if people didn't like something, especially in Scotland, I'd get, ‘That movie you were in was sh-t, by the way,'" the actor explained after discussing his role as Roman Sionis in Birds of Prey.

McGregor is the type of man who likes small talk and direct interaction. Selfies just seem a little bit too impersonal for the DCEU star, which is such a shame knowing how much fans want to get selfies with McGregor, not just for his role in DC but for his role in other major franchises like Star Wars.

Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey is already screening in cinemas.
