Star Wars fans were pretty surprised when Leia survived the attack on the Resistance in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Many expected the film to close Leia's arc after the sudden passing of Carrie Fisher, but instead the film allowed General Organa to live on to Episode IX.
Now, speaking in an interview with the radio station Sirius XM (via Entertainment Weekly), Oscar Isaac explains why he believes Leia ought to be included in the third and final sequel trilogy installment. Opening up about his collaboration with the Star Wars legend, the Resistance fighter pilot said that he "wasn't surprised" that Lucasfilm would bring Fisher back posthumously in Episode IX.
"[Fisher] and I worked together so much. We would talk about the scenes, and we got very tight during the shooting of that. So it was a beautiful thing to see, and it gets carried over into the new film as well," the actor explained, detailing his work with Fisher.
Isaac had a number of scenes with Leia in The Last Jedi, and the two had formed a bond while working on the Star Wars entry.
While Isaac admits that Fisher's posthumous appearance in Episode IX might seem like "definitely an unusual thing," the actor says that "it was right to engage with her character, and not just let it be something that fades away."
So many hearts broke when Fisher passed away back in December 2016. Not only was Fisher someone that fans looked up to for her performance as Leia, but she was also someone that many looked up to for her work as a writer and as a mental health advocate. We're certainly hoping that Episode IX does her justice.
