Star Trek: Picard Finale Kills Off [SPOILER] Once and For All

WARNING: The article contains spoilers about the final episode of Star Trek: Picard titled "The Last Generation." Read at your own risk.

As revealed in the ninth episode of the final season of Star Trek: Picard, the Borg Queen was the main villain behind the season-long mystery of the Changelings' infiltration of the Federation ahead of Frontier Day and why they've been chasing Jack Crusher, who is suffering from a mysterious illness.

We also learned the Borg's master plan to assimilate the Federation to include them in their collective, which eventually affected the younger officers throughout the fleet as we've seen in the penultimate episode. This prompted The Next Generation crew to take it upon themselves to save the universe.

The Borg has always been Jean Luc-Pard's main antagonist as we've seen how his assimilation in "The Best of Both Worlds" affected him for the rest of his life and also passed down to his son as we've seen throughout the season.

During the final episode titled "The Last Generation," Picard and the Enterprise crew have their showdown against the Borg one last time to save the Federation, the assimilated younger officers, and, most importantly, Jack.

The USS Enterprise-D crew arrived at the clouds of Jupiter where the Borg ship was hiding. Picard, William Riker, and Worf went on board the cube while the rest remained on the Enterprise, where they came up with a plan to destroy the beacon.

Riker and Worf were able to successfully find the signal booster and transfer it to the Enterprise. Meanwhile, Picard plugs himself into the hive mind to rescue Jack from the influence of the Borg Queen (Alice Krige reprising the voice role), who looked like a decaying corpse.

Fortunately, things went well as Picard was able to free Jack by convincing him to join his true family. The Enterprise was able to locate the deacon, through the help of Data's competent piloting skills, and destroy it and they also rescued the four from the cube before it completely exploded.

As a result, the Borg Queen and the remaining hive have been killed once and for all. The assimilated younger officers of the Federation were also freed from the collective and the entire universe has been saved.

Suffice it to say, the climactic final battle ended with a happy ending for The Next Generation crew as no one perished during the fight and their long-time enemy has finally been defeated.

While we don't know what the effects of the Borg assimilation of the Federation in the years to come, it is still great to see this arc that started more than 30 years concluded in a satisfying fashion and give us the ending that we never thought we will ever get for The Next Generation crew.
