Star Trek: Picard Finale Has a Perfect Nod to The Next Generation's Final Episode

WARNING: The article contains spoilers about the final episode of Star Trek: Picard titled "The Last Generation." Read at your own risk.

As promised from the beginning when the season was announced, the final episode of Star Trek: Picard gave us the sendoff that The Next Generation crew deserves for more than 20 years ever since we last saw them together.

After an intense climactic battle against the Borg, we witnessed a happy ending for the characters as none of them perished during the fight and their respective arcs concluded in a satisfying manner.

While the finale gave us a glimpse into the potential future with Seven of Nine being officially delegated as the Captain of the new Enterprise-G, the final scene of the series itself was dedicated to The Next Generation crew where they had some drinks and chat in Guinan's 10 Forward Avenue bar.

After a speech from Jean-Luc Picard where he thanked the crew for their friendship and for serving alongside him throughout the years, he initiated a game of poker and they played in a roundtable as the credits roll for the last time.

The scene is obviously reminiscent of The Next Generation's final episode "All Good Things" where the entire crew also played a game of poker with Picard joining for the very first time. This time around, it was he who initiated the game and it led to a long sequence of final shots that is similar to "All Good Things."

While it was emotional to see The Next Generation crew have their adventure for the last time, the ending also made a lot of fans smile due to its obvious easter egg to how the original series ended. After everything that the crew went through, they surely deserve this kind of happy ending.

Despite setting up a potential spinoff with Seven of Nine and the Enterprise-G crew, the ending still provided a sense of closure and the final moment (sans the post-credits scene) gave us the definitive ending that we never thought we will ever get after Nemesis was released.
