Star Trek: Picard Finale Finally Gives Seven of Nine the Long-Awaited Promotion

WARNING: The article contains spoilers about the final episode of Star Trek: Picard titled "The Last Generation." Read at your own risk.

Throughout the final season of Star Trek: Picard, it became obvious that Seven of Nine was being set up as a Federation captain by the end of the series, and a lot of signs pointing towards it being her eventual destiny, which completes her long arc ever since she returned in the first season of Picard.

During the penultimate episode, Captain Liam Shaw was killed off and one of his final words to Seven was to take over the commands of the Titan following his demise. It became a huge turning point for the character since it was a step closer to her eventual path of being a Federation captain.

As a result, throughout the events of the final episode, we saw a glimpse of Seven leading a ship during the fight against the assimilated Federation. While the fight wasn't entirely successful since the cloaking device was destroyed by the assimilated officers, she did prove that she was a competent leader in times of crisis.

During the aftermath of the climactic battle, Seven reunited with her Voyager colleague Tuvok (the real one this time around), who promoted her to the rank of Captain. We also learned that prior to his death, Shaw recorded a video message where he recommended Seven for the promotion despite their differences.

A year later, we saw a full glimpse at Captain Seven of Nine who has now commanded the Enterprise-G (the rechristened Titan) with Raffi as her first officer while Jack Crusher was delegated as liaison to the Captain. Afterward, they went on their first journey to the final frontier and boldly go where no one has gone before.

While the final episode serves as the sendoff to The Next Generation crew, this moment is certainly their way of planting a potential spinoff series with the new crew titled Star Trek: Legacy. However, as showrunner Terry Matalas pointed out, there is no project in development at the moment.

Nevertheless, it is an exciting conclusion for Seven of Nine's arc throughout the season as we finally saw her satisfyingly earn the position of Captain. Hopefully, it does end up on an eventual spinoff that fans are starting to clamor about online.
