Star Trek: Enterprise Actor Hints at Potential Franchise Return

Star Trek: Enterprise was abruptly canceled after only just four seasons during its run in the early 2000s. Throughout the years, there have been hopes from fans that the series will be either resurrected or bring back the characters in the newer shows that are airing.

So far, the current era of the Star Trek franchise on Paramount+ has brought back certain characters and elements from The Next Generation, Voyager, and Deep Space Nine. With the nostalgia that we've been seeing in the franchise, will we also see them return to Enterprise at some point soon?

In a recent appearance at the TREKtalks2 fundraiser livestream event (via TrekMovie), Scott Bakula, who played Jonathan Archer in Enterprise, reflected on the show's four-season run where he revealed that the series was planned to run for seven seasons just like the other series.

"Had we been syndicated, we would have gotten an easy seven, easy breezy. And our numbers were beyond what anybody else had done when we started out, but the nature of network television... it was just a different animal," he said.

"There were lots of changes in the hierarchy, of not only Paramount but of the network. And we were there at an kind of an unfortunate time. And yet I still have to say, gratefully, we got four seasons. But yeah, it would have been nice to do more. We certainly had more stories to tell, we have places to go, but it didn’t work out."

When asked whether he is interested in reprising the role of Jonathan Archer in future Star Trek projects just like his fellow captains Patrick Stewart and Kate Mulgrew, Bakula revealed that he will entertain the idea if ever he gets the call.

The actor said, "I’ve been doing this too long to ever say never or no to anybody. I talk to everybody about stuff. So, sure."

Bakula is also open to the idea of doing voicework on his Trek role. "I’ve done a bunch of animated voice-over work and animation, so I enjoy it. It just hasn’t come across my desk," he added. "But I do appreciate being referred to as 'legacy' as opposed to 'old Trek.' That’s very nice."

It is great to hear that Bakula is open to playing the role of Jonathan Archer again in the franchise. While he is in a different timeline from the rest of the franchise, perhaps Alex Kurtzman and his team can find a way to bring him back in some capacity even if it's voicework as the actor suggested.
