Star Trek: Discovery Showrunner On The Improbability Of Captain Kirk’s Appearance

CBS All Access might be bringing back Spock to the small screen by introducing him into Star Trek: Discovery but it looks like the series has no intention of bringing the half-Vulcan and half-human's partner-in-crime, Captain James T. Kirk.

Now that more established figures are set to appear in the second season of CBS All Access' popular Star Trek series, fans have begun wondering whether or not the show would feature other major characters from the classic series. After all, while Discovery does serve as a prequel series, it is only set a decade before the original series.

Speaking in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter,Discovery showrunner and series co-creator Alex Kurtzman has decided to address all the speculation, denying the possibility of an appearance of Kirk in the immediate future.

"There's a 10-year gap between where we are in Discovery and Kirk's arrival on the Enterprise. There would [have to] be a major time jump if we were going to do something like that. What Kirk was doing at this particular time is another question, but we don't have any immediate plans [for the character]. I have not spoken to Shatner about it."

Of course, it wouldn't entirely make sense to have Kirk on board the USS Discovery. During this time, William Shatner's Kirk would probably still be at the Starfleet Academy. Or he'd be serving as a Junior Officer.

Putting in Kirk in Discovery would seem forced and unnatural, though it would probably help boost the show's viewership.

Star Trek: Discovery is set to deliver its second batch of episodes on January 17 on CBS All Access.
