There is little doubt that people have been curious about Adira since it was confirmed that Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 would introduce its first non-binary character. Not surprisingly, the character has an amazing story that Trekkies couldn't stop talking about.
In the previous episode, it was confirmed that Adira is the human host of Admiral Senna Tal's Trill symbiont. However, not much was known about the young investigator, who is also unable to see their own past. Luckily, fans got to learn more about Adira in Forget Me Not as the character joined Michael Burnham to the Trill homeworld.
Not surprisingly, the Trill leaders were initially repulsed when they find out that Adira is actually human. However, one of the spiritual counselors decides that Adira could be Trill's future and one that is necessary for them to survive. With that, Adira is brought to the caves of Mak'ala to deepen their connection with the symbiont within them.
It is here that we learn Adira was once an orphan on a generational ship that was searching for other parts of the Federation. Additionally, they were in love with Gray, a Trill host who was joined to a Tal symbiont. Sadly, their ship was attacked and Gray was mortally wounded. This led to the Tal symbiont being transfused to Adira in an effort to ensure it.
It's a heartbreaking story that has endeared Adira to Trekkies. In addition to that, it was an amazing introduction of Gray, who is played by Ian Alexander, the franchise's first openly trans actor. Needless to say, we're hoping to see more of Adira and Gray in the future.
