Star Trek: Discovery Cast Thanks Nerds Via Song in 'Rent' Parody

Star Trek: Discovery is the latest television series under the Star Trek name and the fact that it's returning for a second season shows that the franchise is still going strong. The series has been around since the late '60s and is often considered an early example of "nerdy" fandom. While it was an insult back then, fans tend to be more proud of the term nowadays.

Which is why it's kind of cute seeing the cast of Discovery pay tribute to their fanbase, in this Rent parody that is an ode to nerds.

In the latest episode of Carpool Karaoke, the talented quartet of Sonequa Martin-Green, Mary Wiseman, Anthony Rapp, and Doug Jones sing a silly Seasons of Love parody for, who else? the nerds. They do over exaggerate a few times since there haven't been 525,000 Star Trek shows. It can feel that way but that actually isn't the case.

Also, don't mean to sound like a critic here, but when they sing together it can sound a bit grating. Yeah, it is a silly parody song that's meant to be nice to the fans but that doesn't mean we shouldn't expect quality. Still, we should appreciate this song of thanks since a lot of shows don't do that.

Plus, the technical term for this fanbase is "geek," but "nerd" does sound a bit more memorable.

Star Trek: Discovery can currently be streamed on CBS Access.
