We know for some time now that Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot Productions have been working on a fourth Star Trek film with WandaVision director Matt Shakman on-board to direct. However, it was unclear then if the film will feature the Kelvin Timeline crew or a brand new one as one of the cast members expressed their uncertainty on being part of the film. Now, it looks like the Kelvin Timeline crew are now officially on-course to make their return.
Deadline has reported that Paramount Pictures is in talks with Chris Pine to reprise the role of Captain James T. Kirk in the fourth Star Trek film. The plan is to also bring back the other Kelvin Timeline cast members such as Zachary Quinto (Spock), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Karl Urban (McCoy), John Cho (Sulu), and Simon Pegg (Scotty).
The exact plot details for the fourth film are still under wraps, but Shakman is currently supervising a draft of the script by Josh Friedman and Cameron Squires, based off a draft by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Production is planned to begin by this year's end as the film is set to be released by late 2023.
It is exciting for fans of the Kelvin timeline trilogy that the cast members are going to return in the fourth film. While nothing is official yet since they are still in talks with Pine, it seems that the signs are indicating that all of them are likely to return (unless there will be some sort of a scheduling conflict) as the production team is eager to continue with the Kelvin timeline cast and film within this year.
However, it's been six years now since Star Trek Beyond was released and most of the cast members have become more busy as they are now involved in other high-profile projects. Right now, we can bet that all of them are going to return as it seems that they loved playing their respective characters. Fingers crossed that everything will work out so that we can see them again in their Starfleet uniforms and go to the final frontier.

The fourth Star Trek film is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on December 22, 2023.
