Star Trek 4: Chris Hemsworth Possibly Not Returning as Captain Kirk's Father

There is little doubt that Trekkies are delighted now that it has been confirmed that Paramount Pictures is moving forward with Star Trek 4. After all, the highly anticipated sequel will bring back the Kelvin Timeline cast including Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, and more. However, it also looks like one important character will not be returning in the film. Chris Hemsworth might not reprise his role as Captain Kirk's father after all!

Back in 2018, there were reports that both Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth were leaving Star Trek 4 over salary disputes. During that time, the sequel was supposed to explore a time travel storyline where James Kirk gets to meet his father George Kirk, who was killed off in the first Star Trek movie. However, both stars ultimately opted out of the project over the dispute of salary.

Things have certainly changed since then considering that Chris Pine is now set to return in Star Trek 4. But will Chris Hemsworth also return in the sequel? So far, the only names confirmed for the movie are Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho and Simon Pegg. With that in mind, there is a possibility that Hemsworth isn't in the film anymore or his appearance will be a mere cameo.

This is an interesting thing to speculate since it would mean Star Trek 4 could follow a completely different storyline that does not involve the time travel storyline. Additionally, this suggests that we're still unsure of what will happen in the upcoming sequel.

Star Trek 4 is the only project from the franchise that has been confirmed by Paramount so far. However, there is a huge possibility we'll be getting more updates on even more Star Trek movies soon. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
