Squid Game Season 2 has found more players. The highly anticipated sequel has added eight new cast members who may or may not survive until the end of the season. In addition to that, the Netflix series has cast former BIGBANG member Choi Seung-hyun aka T.O.P in a mystery role.
Squid Game Season 2 Announces 8 New Players
The official Netflix Twitter account announced the casting by sharing a photo of the eight actors who will join Squid Game Season 2. The second round of cast members include Park Gyu-young, Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, and Won Ji-an.
Not surprisingly, people were hyped up about Choi Seung-hyun. Although he is best known as the former BIGBANG rapper T.O.P, Choi is also an accomplished actor who appeared in films like 71: Into the Fire and Out of Control.
Choi isn't the only K-pop idol joining the cast. Jo Yu-ri is a former member of the girl group IZ*ONE who has since become a solo artist. There were previous rumors about Jo's casting in Squid Game Season 2 but Netflix has finally made it official.
The new cast members will join Yim Si-wan (Emergency Declaration), Kang Ha-neul (The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure), Park Sung-hoon (The Glory), and Yang Dong-geun (Connect), who were previously confirmed in the first cast announcement video.
Fans had reacted negatively to the announcement of four new male actors joining the cast, complaining that the show has chosen not to add any new female characters. Netflix has since assured fans that there will be more cast members that will be announced later.
Squid Game Season 2 will also bring back Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun , Lee Byung-hun as Hwang In-ho aka The Frontman, Wi Ha-joon as Hwang Jun-ho, and Gong Yoo as the Recruiter.
The second season of Squid Game has not yet been given an official release date but is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2024.
