Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse became one of the biggest hits of the summer season this year as it managed to not just outgross the first film, but also almost double the numbers and cemented itself as one of the top 10 highest-grossing films worldwide so far.

It also received massive critical acclaim just like the first film and it is now also being tipped as the frontrunner to win Best Animated Feature Film again at the next Academy Awards.

However, weeks after it premiered in theaters, it garnered controversy as a report alleged that the production of the film had poor working conditions as a lot of artists worked overtime due to multiple revisions requested by co-producer and co-writer Phil Lord.

Sony denied the allegations that were made in the report while producer Amy Pascal called the situation a normal part of the filmmaking process.

In a recent interview with Variety, Lord was asked to comment regarding the report surrounding the poor working conditions claim on the production of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

He responded by acknowledging that the making of the film was "hard" and "demanding" and expressed his love and support for the crew that worked on the project.

"In terms of Spider-Verse, that was a really hard movie to make. We’re really proud of how hard everybody worked, and it was very demanding. But we’re just really proud of the crew, and everything they put into it," he said.

Lord gave a more ambiguous and press-friendly response to the question since he didn't really fully address the report aside from acknowledging its difficult production process and how the crew worked hard from it.

Whether the claims have validity or not, it is certainly an issue that is worth discussing as we're also in the middle of a major labor dispute in Hollywood where writers and actors are asking for fair contracts, working conditions, and compensations.

We will never know for now if the issues that were laid out here will be addressed in some way during the making of Beyond the Spider-Verse, but it is something that is being kept an eye on as the production is ongoing for that film.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is now available on home video.
