Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Producer Hints Film's Connection to the MCU

After the smashing success of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, a lot of fans are now looking forward to the two-part sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse with the first one set to be released later this year. Given that the films are set in the multiverse, there are some who have been wondering if they will eventually connect to the MCU in some capacity. Now, it looks like that might be the case.

In an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were asked if there is a chance that the upcoming film will eventually connect to the MCU multiverse. "The Multiverse is big and wide. And all things grow," Miller said. "Why would you think a Multiverse, in which many things are possible, that [those things are] not related?"

"Everything's possible except for this one thing that everyone wants," Lord added. He also noted that Amy Pascal is the one who is handling the Spider-Man franchise in various forms as she is "sort of [their] conduit to knowing exactly what's going on in the Spider-Verse."

He continued, "You're collectively advancing this humongous mega-story, and you have total control over your little sliver of it. And everything else you just have to communicate as much as possible, make adjustments... It's almost like a film school exercise where you're like, 'Okay, we were gonna do that, but they did it first, so we're gonna have to do something different.' And often that makes you think of something you wouldn't have thought of otherwise, and it makes your thing better because you're having to come up with an off-speed pitch, and not do the obvious thing. [Into the Spider-Verse] was like that too. It's playing off of the canon and that gives you the freedom to do something else."

Based on their responses, it seems that they are hinting that the upcoming film might connect to the MCU multiverse in some capacity which makes sense since there are endless possibilities when it comes to the multiverse. There's also the fact that Tom Holland mentioned in an interview before that he had a conversation with Pascal about potentially joining the film although he hasn't received any follow-up calls about it yet.

If the film will eventually connect to the MCU, it wouldn't be surprising and for sure it will also delight a lot of fans. As long as the story makes sense, there shouldn't be any problem at all connecting the two universes.
