Sound! Euphonium finally returned with a new OVA four years after the A Brand New Day movie. Aside from fans, Sound! Euphonium Kumiko and Reina VAs also shared their excitement about finally returning to their roles.
In an interview with Febri, Kumiko and Reina VAs Tomoyo Kurosawa and Chika Anzai shared their approach to returning as their respective characters. After all, this anime is one that’s close to their hearts.
As expected, there was some pressure for the two, and they shared how they managed both the pressure and the excitement about their long-awaited return.
Sound! Euphonium Finally Returns Four Years After the Movie
Kyoto Animation may be best known for its classic shows like The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and K-On!, but the studio also has a couple of modern hits, including Sound! Euphonium.
This slice-of-life series became a huge hit when the first season aired in 2015, thanks in part to its great animation, interesting high school band story, and the yuri elements.
Since then, the show has gotten another season in 2016, as well as a sequel movie in 2019. But given the tragic KyoAni arson attack in 2019, the series has not gotten a new entry since.
Finally, Sound! Euphonium has made a triumphant return with the Ensemble Contest OVA which was released recently in Japanese cinemas.
For this new OVA, the show’s main voice cast has returned, including Kurosawa and Anzai.
Though over the past year, these two have been busy, with major roles such as Mitsumi in Skip and Loafer as well as Chisato in Lycoris Recoil.

Kumiko and Reina VAs Express Their Excitement on Returning to Sound! Euphonium
Of the two, it was Anzai who was a bit more pressured regarding their return.
Anzai shared in the interview that since it has been a long while since she voiced Reina, she wasn’t sure if she can still voice her well.
Though this fear subsided as she was able to voice Reina again without any issues.
In fact, she didn’t have to do her adorable “Kumiko Tuning” preparation where she screams out Kumiko’s name to get the Reina voice just right.
As for Kurosawa, she revealed that Sound! Euphonium is an anime that’s close to her heart, so she did not have any hesitations when it was time to return.
Kurosawa and Anzai will also return as Kumiko and Reina, respectively in Sound! Euphonium Season 3 which releases next year.
