Sophie Wessex Reportedly Relieved She No Longer Needs to Curtsy to Meghan Markle?

King Charles gifted his younger brother, Prince Edward, their late father Prince Philip's previous title by making him and his wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, the new Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, on his 59th birthday. With their new dukedom titles, they no longer need to curtsy to Meghan Markle and bow to Prince Harry.

The changes reportedly left Sophie relieved that she no longer needed to curtsy to the former actress as she was previously duty-bound to defer to Prince Harry's wife, who was of a higher rank.

A source told Daily Mail:

"Sophie is relieved. She no longer has to curtsey to someone in the family who has not only left Royal duties but has spent the past three years criticising the institution that Sophie works so hard to support."

In one episode of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex spoke about the intricacies of curtseying.

According to her, Prince Harry asked her if she knew how to curtsy because she had to do so when she met the Queen.

"I just thought it was a joke," she said before re-enacting the exaggerated curtsey she gave Queen Elizabeth II before laughing.

Brandreth wrote in the book, per Good to Know:

"The Queen (who, of course, had seen it all before) understood that Harry's girl might find adjusting to Royal life 'challenging to begin with' (as she put it). 'It is very jolty, but you soon get used to it' – that was Her Majesty's experience going back many years."

He added:

"To help Meghan, the Queen suggested that her daughter-in-law, Sophie Wessex, would be an ideal mentor. 'Sophie can help show you the ropes,' said the Queen. Meghan made it clear that she did not feel she needed Sophie's help. She had Harry."
