One of the Spider-Verse movies that Sony is currently working on is El Muerto with Grammy-winning artist Bad Bunny playing the titular role. Despite being scheduled for release early next year, we still have not heard any significant updates regarding the project.
A while ago, reports claimed that the film's release might get delayed since it is not close to production and the script is still being worked on. There are also no additional updates beyond the casting of Bad Bunny and the hiring of the director and writer.
Now, it looks like the project is finally moving along as notable insider Daniel Richtman revealed (via The Direct) in his recent post that Tombstone is set to be the main villain in El Muerto.
In addition, they claimed that Sony has cast rapper-actor Marvin "Krondon" Jones III to play the role in the film. He previously voiced the character in the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse where he appeared as Kingpin's main bodyguard.
It should be noted that the scoop has not been confirmed yet by Sony so we still have to take it with a grain of salt for now. However, with Richtman's previous track records, there is a likelihood that it will end up being true.
This is a sign that the project is indeed moving forward since it looks like they are already in the casting process and has set the main villain that El Muerto will face in his first solo movie in the Spider-Verse.
In terms of Krondon's casting, he is an interesting choice. While he doesn't have a lot of acting experience, he has played the role before through voice work so he has familiarity with how he is going to tackle the character in live-action.
For now, let's just wait and see for more updates regarding the movie as it is currently moving along. We might be hearing more casting info in the coming weeks.
