Sony Announces PlayStation Classic, Includes Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, and More

Sony does what Nintendo did, as the company has announced a brand-new PlayStation Classic for December. Much like the NES and SNES Classics, this is a much smaller version of Sony's first game console that will be home to a number of games that will make any 90's kid feel nostalgic.

The PlayStation Blog has confirmed that there will be 20 pre-loaded games in the system and have confirmed five titles thus far: Final Fantasy VII, Wild Arms, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer 4, and Tekken 3. That means there are 15 more games to go and when you consider just how many classics came out in that system, Sony is going to have a hard time nailing down what titles to put in this little console.

It will be fun playing Tekken 3 with friends again since many consider it to be one of the franchise's most innovative outings. Final Fantasy VII is a bonafide classic and had to be in this collection. Wild Arms and Jumping Flash are interesting choices, with the latter in particular never getting any sequels or follow-ups. Ridge Racer is a racing game, what else needs to be said?

Like the SNES and NES Classics, this smaller PlayStation will come with two controllers and an HDMI cable for proper HD gaming. The controllers are wired though, so players will have to sit near the television so that they can play properly. Hopefully, it will be longer than the absurdly short wires that the NES Classic was bundled with.

With Sony now interested in this, it will be interesting to see if they release a PS2 Classic in the near future. That console arguably has more classics than the PSOne, with many calling it the best gaming system of all time. It's also why fans are annoyed at Sony for not adding more PS2 Classics in the PlayStation Network.

The PlayStation Classic comes out on December 3.
