When is Song of the Bandits Coming Out?
Netflix has announced when the Song of the Bandits release date will be. Initially, they revealed the show as part of its K-Content lineup for the year.
The show was released on Friday, September 22nd. All of the nine episodes are available to stream.
Who Stars in Song of the Bandits?
The list of Song of the Bandits cast includes some of the most notable stars in South Korea.
First of all, veteran actor Yoo Jaemyung plays the role of Choi Chung-soo, an independence activist who leads an ethnical village in Gando. He is famous for starring in Vincenzo, Juvenile Justice, and Itaewon Class.
Joining him is Lee Hyun-wook, who stars as Lee Kwang-il, a Japanese military officer in the series. He also starred in Remarriage and Desires, Mine, and the zombie series #Alive.
Nevertheless actress Lee Ho-jung is also part of the Song of the Bandits cast as Eon Nyeon-i, a gunman sent to assassinate Lee Yoon (played by Kim Nam-gil). Although Nam-gil has starred in other Kdramas like The Fiery Priest and Pandora, Song of the Bandits is his official debut on Netflix.
Another celebrity who will debut in the series is South Korean singer Seohyun. She will be playing the role of Nam Hee-shin. Seohyun is famous for being part of the group Girls Generation. She was also part of the on-stage Korean adaptations of Gone With the Wind and Mamma Mia.
As of this writing, the only confirmed supporting member of the cast is Kim Seol-jin, who stars as Kimura.
Who are the Creative Minds Behind the Scenes?
Song of the Bandits was developed by Netflix together with Studio Dragon, Urban Works, and Baram Pictures.
The show is directed by Hwang Joon-hyeok/ Hwang Jun-hyeok, who is famous for other Kdramas like Black Dog and Twenty Years Old.
Meanwhile, Han Jeong-hoon/ Han Jung-hoon developed the Song of the Bandits script. He previously wrote Vampire Prosecutor, Bad Guys, and My Fellow Citizens.
What is Song of the Bandits About?
The official logline of the upcoming series reads on Netflix:
“An action-adventure set in the tumultuous period of Japanese colonial rule over Korea about a group of people who, for various reasons, end up in the lawless land of Gando and become united in protecting Joseon for the Korean people. Anticipation runs high for the intense drama that will unfold as different groups with their respective motives — including Japanese troops, the Korean Independence Army, hitmen, bandits, and Joseon migrants — face one another in the anarchic land of Gando during the 1920s.”
The teaser also reveals that the action-packed Kdrama is set in the 1920s. We see the show led by Kim Nam-gil and Seohyun.
The bandits of Gando are led by Lee Yoon, a defected Japanese soldier who has decided to protect his fellow citizens.

Song of the Bandits is available to stream on Netflix starting September 22, 2023. It is expected to have a total of 12 episodes.
