Solo Is Third Lowest Rated Star Wars Film In Rotten Tomatoes

It looks like there might be some trouble brewing over the horizon for Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The Rotten Tomatoes score for Lucasfilm's newest spinoff is already in and the film's rating doesn't look too good at the very least. The film might not have officially premiered, but after its Hollywood opening, Solo has come to bring with it a 70% fresh rating out of 98 reviews.

Solo now ranks as the third lowest rated film in the Star Wars franchise – right above Attack of the Clones which received a rating of 66% and Phantom Menace which got 55%.

Though only 19 of these reviews give the film a "Rotten" score, most of the reviews that label Solo "Fresh" call the film "entertaining but not particularly deep," "boilerplate," and "shaky."

The film's Metacritic score doesn't seem to be any better either, coming in at 63% on the review aggregation website. Though critics from The Verge and Consequence of Sound give the film a score of around 90, other reviewers aren't as generous with their scores. Most of the reviews sit at around 60 to 75; a pretty low range for a Star Wars film.

What's worse is that these scores could dip even lower once Solo officially premieres. Star Wars films tend to blind fans and critics alike the first time they see the movie. After seeing the film twice or thrice, the lights fizzle and reviewers become more critical of what they've seen.

Of course, there's also the possibility of Solo's ratings going up once the film premieres – but that seems pretty unlikely. Fans weren't particularly excited when Lucasfilm announced it was making a Han Solo movie. We'll probably just have to wait and see what happens from here on.

Solo: A Star Wars Story premieres this Friday, May 25.
