Solo: Dryden Vos was Almost the Same Species as Zeb from Star Wars Rebels

Before Paul Bettany was cast as Dryden Vos in Solo: A Star Wars Story, the role originally belonged to Michael K. Williams, who was set to play a human/animal hybrid. As it turns out, Dryden was very close to being a Lasat—the same species as Zeb from Star Wars Rebels.

This was revealed in some concept art for Solo, here shared by Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy author Amy Ratcliffe:

There are also several other takes for what Dryden Vos could look like, but judging by the cramped production after Ron Howard took over, it was probably easiest to keep Vos a humanoid character.

Just an interesting fact, the Lasat look was one of the original designs for Chewbacca, and it was one of the several elements of the McQuarrie art that made it into Rebels. Having a live-action Lasat would be interesting to see in Solo, but I can imagine a lot more room to have one appear in any upcoming films.

Though I thought Paul Bettany did what he could with the character, I still think Michael K. Williams would have made for a more threatening Dryden Vos. Such a shame that he couldn't make the reshoots after Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired.

Catch Solo: A Star Wars Story in theaters now.
