Solo Director Ron Howard Comments on Star Wars Spinoffs Being Put on Hold

The end of Solo: A Star Wars Story's box office run was met with several rumors that the Star Wars spinoff movies had been put on hold, and that Disney is looking for someone to replace Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. Now Solo director Ron Howard has come to open up on the goings on behind the scenes and gives us another update on what the status of the spinoffs are.

Talking to TMZ, Howard explained:

"I don't think it's entirely accurate. I think that was reported, but I don't think that's what I understand. Everybody at Lucasfilm and Disney really cares about the fans. I think it's an ongoing process of discovering what it can be and what it can all add up to. It's a process, and personally, I like that they take some chances, take some risks and see how people respond to it."

While Solo didn't perform as intended in the box office, analysts believe that this was due to the marketing and the release date set so close to Avenger: Infinity War and Deadpool 2. Reception for the movie was generally good as well, so it would seem like a rash move for Lucasfilm to suddenly cut off the anthology movies—right after they announce an upcoming Boba Fett movie as well a fanbase's rising hype for a Kenobi film.

It seems that the underperformance of Solo has led to a lot of nasty rumors going out online, but until we can get an official statement from Lucasfilm themselves, we'll just have to sit tight and hope for the best.

Hopefully we get an official announcement of their film roadmap come Star Wars Celebration 2019, or maybe even before that.
