I think we can all agree that Zack Snyder's Justice League was a pretty solid and gratifying film overall but that's not to say that the DC Extended Universe project which took four years to release is actually safe from getting criticism from its viewers. A lot of fans and critics are taking issue with the film's over-reliance on slow-motion scenes and if you were among the folks who sat through 4 hours of the Snyder Cut, chances are it may have also bothered you at one point.

The overabundance of slow-mo scenes was finally addressed by the film's cinematographer who clarified right off the bat that it's a Zack Snyder thing. In an interview with IndieWire, Fabian Wagner says that he's very thrilled with the positive reception for the project before saying that there's actually a technical reason behind the slow-mo scenes and they're more than just for show.

He explains: "The one thing we know about Zack is that he loves slow motion, so you have to be prepared for that. There's a technical aspect — if you crank up the camera, you need a lot more light, so you have to be prepared for that. I was ready on most sets, I was always prepared to kick the light up a couple f-stops."

Wagner later expressed his admiration for Zack and says that he's always been a fan of his style and body of work. He continued: "It's an interesting collaboration. I always [had] been a fan of Zack's movies, and his usual DP Larry Fong. He's such a visual, creative director, who is obviously filled with ideas. He's a real trendsetter. When I first met with him, he had the whole movie storyboarded. He's also a great artist when it comes to drawing. He took me through the whole movie. He knows what he wants, but is very open to other ideas and listens to you."

Personally, I wasn't all that bothered by the slow-motion sequences in the film, and in fact, I wouldn't have noticed that there were actually a lot of slow-mo sequences until fans pointed it out on social media. I guess as a fan of Snyder, I somewhat expected it to happen since he's always been known to incorporating such style in his films. Heck, even 300 and Watchmen all had slow-motion scenes. It's just something that you have to accept from the director's body of work.
