There is little doubt that the world was in shock when it was revealed that Allison Mack is involved with the controversial cult NXIVM and that she was one of the members who was recruiting women for leader Keith Raniere. Not surprisingly, the former Smallville actress had stayed quiet about the topic as she awaits sentencing for sex trafficking.
Interestingly, things are changing as Mack prepares to face her sentencing this week. The actress has just broken her silence and issued an apology for her actions.
The Hollywood Reporter obtained and shared Mack's lengthy apology to her victims and people who were affected by her crimes.
"It is now of paramount importance for me to say, from the bottom of my heart, I am so sorry," Mack wrote. "I threw myself into the teachings of Keith Raniere with everything I had. I believed, wholeheartedly, that his mentorship was leading me to a better, more enlightened version of myself. I devoted my loyalty, my resources, and, ultimately, my life to him. This was the biggest mistake and regret of my life."
"I am sorry to those of you that I brought into Nxivm. I am sorry I ever exposed you to the nefarious and emotionally abusive schemes of a twisted man. I am sorry that I encouraged you to use your resources to participate in something that was ultimately so ugly," Mack continues.
"I do not take lightly the responsibility I have in the lives of those I love and I feel a heavyweight of guilt for having misused your trust, leading you down a negative path," she concluded.
Not surprisingly, some people are not completely convinced by the apology. Some believe that Mack is trying to reduce her sentence by putting most of the blame on Raniere.
Mack was arrested back in 2018 and was immediately charged with sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy, and forced labor conspiracy. The actress pled guilty to charges alleging that she recruited and manipulated women into becoming sex slaves for Raniere.
Raniere was already sentenced last October to 120 years in prison after being convicted of seven felonies. Mack's sentencing will be on Wednesday, June 30, 2021.
