Simu Liu May Have Revealed The Version of Shang-Chi He’s Playing

Ever since the spread of the novel coronavirus forced the production of many film and television projects to come to a halt, there's been very little word about Marvel's plans for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

While Marvel's Shang-Chi actor Simu Liu has been keeping mum about the movie, he has been responding to posts on social media, and it seems like a recent Tweet may give away details about the version of Shang-Chi that he's going to play in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Earlier this week, O'Shea Jackson, otherwise known as Ice Cube, went on Twitter to say that he'd rather have a real life superhero like Bruce Lee than those from Marvel.

Responding to the post, Liu tweeted back at Cube, saying, "What if I told you there was a character loosely based on him in the comic books???"

Of course, Liu was referring to Shang-Chi. While it might seem like an innocent tweet, Inverse suggests that the actor's response may reveal details about his character.

There might not be that many iterations of Shang-Chi in Marvel comics, but over the years, the character eventually began to look like Bruce Lee, especially in the 2000s. While the character started off as an amalgamation of America's obsession with kung-fu back in the 70s, he eventually took on a look that channelled Lee.

Perhaps this is the version of Shang-Chi that Liu's going to play in Marvel's upcoming movie. It doesn't feel like a stretch, considering how recent the Bruce Lee-esque iteration of the hero is.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set to premiere on February 11, 2021.
