Sigourney Weaver and James Cameron Still Want Neill Blomkamp's Alien to Happen

A while back, it seemed that District 9 helmer Neill Blomkamp was in line to direct a new Aliens film which would have followed the story of Ripley. Some concept art had leaked out online, but thanks to Ridley Scott, it looked like Blomkamp's film was never going to happen. Chin up though, because Blomkamp has a supporter in the form of a James Cameron.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter,Alien star Sigourney Weaver shared:

"We almost started to do it when I was working with James Cameron. But by the time we were put off by Fox, Neill had gotten so many jobs that we'd have to wait probably. I'm busy doing Avatar 4 and 5. I love working with Neill and I think he'd do a terrific job, and James Cameron really thinks it's a great idea, so you never know. Right now, I think Neill's got like three projects going at once."

For now, Blomkamp is said to be attached to a reboot/sequel of Robocop which I think is perfect for his realistic future aesthetic. Unlike the remake, it seems that this film will follow-up directly to the first movie, and word has come out that Blomkamp wants original Robocop Peter Weller to participate as well.

As for Cameron's side of things, he's busy shooting the next few Avatar pictures back to back, The first installment is set to come out in 2020, and it will feature the return of actors Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington. Like previously stated, Sigourney Weaver is also expected to make a comeback.

Neill Blomkamp's Alien may not be happening, but we know that the first Avatar sequel is set to come out Dec. 18, 2020.
