Robert Downey Jr. may be ending his Iron Man career with Avengers: Endgame, but after he's set to come back to the Sherlock Holmes franchise. The movie is set to come out in 2021, but we may have some details on the story for the final film.
According to HN Entertainment, Sherlock Holmes 3 may be expected to take place in the Old West, specifically San Francisco, California. We don't have any more specific plot details than that, but the site guesses we'll be delving into Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's fascination with American figures like Harry Houdini as well as William J. Burns whom Doyle dubbed ‘The American Sherlock Holmes.'
While Moriarty was considered to be the equivalent of Holmes in the series, it would be interesting to see him run into his American counterpart. It would be kind of like how RDJ ran into Benedict Cumberbatch in Infinity War—both actors had played the role of Sherlock Holmes. It would be funny if they cast Cumberbatch as the America Holmes seeing as he's the one who is an actual Brit.
Originally the movie was set for a release next year, but the release has been delayed to 2021 without a specified reason. Though the wait is going to be long, I just hope they manage to gather all the principal actors from the series including director Guy Ritchie.
Sherlock Holmes 3 is set to come out Dec. 22, 2021. Catch RDJ in Avengers: Endgame which comes out April 26.
