She-Hulk Director Confirms Upcoming Series Will Be More Comedic

One of the upcoming MCU series that is set to be released this year is She-Hulk. While the exact plot details are still scarce at the moment, we do know that it will center on Bruce Banner's cousin lawyer Jennifer Walters as she becomes the titular hero and it will explore the legal world of the MCU. Even though the films and TV shows in the franchise are action-packed, they still deliver the laughs in some moments and it looks like She-Hulk won't be shying from any of it. In fact, they are going to double down when it comes to the laughs.

Speaking with TheWrap, She-Hulk director Kat Coiro confirmed that the upcoming series will be more comedic even though it is still set within the MCU. "I never choose a project based on genre. And I actually don’t think very much about genre, I think about character," she said. "And I think about the emotional lives of the characters and, you know, can I bring something? Can I bring a mix of humor and heart to this? Because that is what I love to watch. And it’s what I love to work with."

Coiro continued, "And so when I stepped into, you know, the Marvel playground — the cool thing about Marvel is that it is an ever-evolving universe and you have straight dramas, and you have very comedic films, and we are in that world where we’re definitely playing with a more comedic world, but it also is still part of Marvel land."

While a lot of fans might already be expecting that the series will be playing more into the comedic world, the director's statements indicate that it will be yet again very different from the other MCU shows in terms of the genre. It is in-align with what Marvel has been doing with their Disney+ shows whether it's WandaVision being a half-sitcom and half-fantasy, Hawkeye being a holiday buddy cop story, or Loki as both fantasy and crime thriller.

It is interesting to hear that She-Hulk will be leaning towards more in the "legal comedy" category. However, even though the series will be more comedic than the others, it is still the MCU so obviously there's still going to be a lot of action and science-fiction. But either way, it is very exciting to see how Marvel will bring the character to the screen and what Tatiana Maslany's portrayal of Jennifer Walters will look like as she becomes another major player in the MCU.
