Shazam star Jack Dylan Grazer recently opened up about the possibility of a third movie and a potential return in the DCU.

While the first film was well-received critically and garnered solid box office success, the sequel Fury of the Gods ended up becoming a financial disappointment and received mixed reviews from critics.

There are no plans at this point to bring back the titular hero as the franchise is being rebooted into the new DCU under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Speaking with CBR, Grazer was asked about the possibility of a third Shazam movie and the hero's return in the new DCU franchise.

He believes that a third movie won't ever happen due to the sequel's disappointing box-office performance.

"I don't know, man. I don't want to steal the thunder from [my new series] Spiderwick [Chronicles], but I will say probably not," he said.

"I don't know if there was an article that [director] David Sandberg posted, he said, 'I will never make another superhero movie again.' Because I guess Shazam! 2 tanked. I liked it. I thought it was a good movie. I liked it, but box office was like, 'Suck this.' Whatever."

However, if the character makes his return to the DCU, Grazer thinks that Black Adam will be the key to bringing him back.

He added, "If it happens, it happens, and I think that if it does happen — and who's to say that my word has any authority — but if it does happen, it will probably be from a Black Adam thing. Black Adam will invite Shazam into that world."

Considering what has happened with the DC franchise since the sequel's release, we can safely say that a third Shazam movie is certainly not going to happen and the role will likely be recast if he gets reintroduced in the DCU.

Grazer also pointed out the fact that Black Adam has always been associated with Shazam and perhaps they will finally apply their connection when they appear in the DCU and get their origins right.

For now, fans should wait for any news surrounding Shazam's potential DCU debut in the near future and see what Gunn and Safran may have in store for the character.
