Shazam! Fury of the Gods Sets Unexpected Milestone for Rachel Ziegler

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is undoubtedly a huge project for any new actor like Rachel Zegler and it looks like it's set to give the Snow White star two major firsts in her career. Interestingly, Shazam 2 director David F. Sandberg explains that the milestones actually came at an unexpected circumstance.

If there's one thing that we know about Rachel Zegler, it's the fact that the girl can sing. After starring in West Side Story, she is expected to stretch those vocal cords again in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. But we're not getting any songs from Zegler in Shazam 2 because David F. Sandberg didn't know about her talent.

"It's funny because I had no idea about her singing, and it seems like in every other movie she sings," Sandberg told Entertainment Weekly. "In ours, she doesn't because I just didn't know!"

Unfortunately, it's an opportunity missed in Shazam! Fury of the Gods since the idea of a singing supervillain is an awesome one but Rachel Zegler has several other projects where singing is involved. In the meantime, we can't wait to see her as Anthea in Shazam 2.

Rachel Zegler isn't the only actor playing a supervillain in Fury of the Gods that Sandberg is impressed with. The director also raved about working with Helen Mirren and Lucy Lui who plays Anthea's sisters and fellow daughters of Atlas Hespera and Kalypso. "It was a dream to work with them. We aimed high when we cast the movie, and we got exactly what we wanted," Sandberg said.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods will bring back Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Meagan Good, and Djimon Hounsou. Zegler, Mirren, and Liu are the new cast members who will be joining the DC Universe sequel.

Shazam 2 finally hits theaters on March 17, 2023.
