Shazam! Easter Egg Shows the World Blames Lex Luthor for the Events of Justice League

The first preview for Shazam! gave us a good look at new and upcoming characters, but it also had some neat Easter Eggs to the DCEU's past. Apparently, after the events of Justice League, the world has went on to blame Lex Luthor for the invasion of aliens.

ScreenRant took a very close look at one of Freddy Freeman's papers, and one of the articles read:

"Russia Cleans Up—The Top Suspect: As a worldwide search begins for those responsible, specialists say early signs point to Lex Luthor and his associates."

Blaming Luthor wouldn't be entirely wrong. When he was arrested by the end of Batman v Superman, he revealed that he was the one who had sent for Steppenwolf to start the invasion on Earth. We don't know how much of that news was shared to the public, but at least we know that they see Luthor as a villain.

While there are a lot of things to like about BvS, one of the weaker elements was considered to be Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor. Instead of the calm and collected genius we have from the comics, his Luthor turned out to be a Max Landis impression with the characterization of The Dark Knight's Joker.

The DCEU is still pushing forward though, and there's still plenty of time for Luthor to ‘redeem' himself. Hopefully they use him better in future movies.

Shazam! hits theaters April 5, 2019.
