Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Rachel Zegler is drawing flak after revealing that her portrayal of Anthea was initially inspired by one of Marvel's most popular superheros. During a press junket interview with CinemaBlend, the Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Snow White star revealed that she originally thought her character's hand gestures would be similar to Wanda Maximoff's until director David F. Sandberg told her that it will be completely different.

Shockingly enough, Zegler's revelation didn't sit well with some DCU diehards, with one fan criticizing her for not making a Doctor Fate or Zatanna reference. Hitting back at the said fan who blasted her for modeling her portrayal after Elizabeth Olsen's MCU anti-hero, Zegler took to Twitter to "school" her critic, responding: "actually neither zatanna nor doctor fate perform hand movements like the ones i specifically referenced be blessed though".

She followed it up by writing: "gonna school me about my own job? the thing i get paid for? no no". In the end, the rising actress said she doesn't find any issue with her talking about what she believes is a "revolutionary moment" for the genre. Zegler wrote: "also people acting like none of us are allowed to talk about what was undoubtedly a revolutionary moment for superhero franchise entertainment in the modern age…….. get a job!"
