The series’ official Twitter account has announced a Shangri-La Frontier anime adaptation. Along with the new TV anime’s announcement, a new trailer, along with cast, staff, and release information have been announced.
Shangri-La Frontier is animated by C2C, the studio behind Hitori Bocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu and Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina. Directing the series is Toshiyuki Kubooka (Berserk: Golden Age Arc), with the screenplay by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (Black Clover).
For its cast, the series features several popular voice actors, including the likes of Yuma Uchida, Azumi Waki, and more.

Along with the cast and staff information, the first trailer for the series was also released. Unlike typical trailers for new anime which are usually only a minute long or less, the Shangri-La Frontier anime trailer is nearly four minutes long.
Thanks to this, fans of the novel series are given a better glimpse at the upcoming anime adaptation.
In case you’re unfamiliar, Shangri-La Frontier is an ongoing web novel series written by Katarina that began publishing on Shōsetsuka ni Narō back in May 2017.
The series then received a manga adaptation illustrated by Ryosuke Fuji. The ongoing manga started serialization in Weekly Shonen Magazine in July 2020.
Shangri-La Frontier Anime Release Date, Story
Shangri-La Frontier is set in the near future where full-dive VR games have become the popular form of gaming. But because of this, lots of “trash games” exist in the world which are games that are full of faults and glitches.
The series follows Rakuro Hizutome, a collector of these “trash games.” But after getting burned out on these games, Rakuro decides to buy the full-dive VR Game, "Shangri-La Frontier." There, his trash game expertise proves to be useful.
The Shangri-La Frontier TV anime is set to release sometime in 2023. Currently, there’s no word yet on an official release date nor an episode count for the upcoming show.
