What If...? Season 2 continues to spread the holiday cheer and we finally got an episode that puts the spotlight on Loki.

Since What If...? explores a variety of potential timelines and alternate storylines within the confines of Marvel Multiverse, it's no wonder that the God of Mischief has had his turn at an ironically less villainy role.

Considering that Loki Season 2 had ended with the God of Mischief transforming into the God of Stories, perhaps this is Marvel's way of telling its fans and viewers that this is just the beginning of his story running in the billion-dollar franchise.

A Major Loki Easter Egg Fans Have Long Been Waiting For

What If Season 2 Episode 8 opened with the God of Mischief reciting Shakespeare's Hamlet on the stage.

After his brother, Prince Thor, booed Loki's performance, a mysterious green portal appeared in the sky, nearly sucking Loki in.

Though a few scenes showcasing Loki as his Shakespearean self is not enough for one mere episode, MCU fans still had their breath taken away at Tom Hiddleston's luckiest break in the franchise yet.

Longtime fans of Loki celebrated one of Tom Hiddleston's most iconic interviews on how Shakespeare was admittedly one of the reasons behind the pursuit of his acting career, which he previously told Los Angeles Times:

"When I was constructing [Loki] with [Thor director] Ken Branagh — because Shakespeare is a shared passion and shared inheritance — we talked about the reference. He’s kind of like Edmund in ‘King Lear,” Iago in ‘Othello’ or Cassius in ‘Julius Caesar.’ So I was borrowing archetypes from my knowledge of Shakespeare."

Hiddleston even shared his love for the classic Bard at a 2013 Comic Con where he once stated, "I'm a terrible tennis player, but I do get to do lots of Shakespeare."

That said, fans couldn't help but gush at how the MCU star had finally combined the most perfect variant of Loki anyone could dream of — Shakespeare Loki performing on stage.
