Shadow and Bone Star Gets Honest if He Wants to Join Marvel

Leigh Bardugo's Grishaverse, consisting of The Shadow and Bone trilogy and The Six of Crows duology, has a loyal fandom, and when it gets adapted for a Netflix series, it gathers an even larger fanbase. Now that the fantasy series is in its second season, more book characters are being introduced in the onscreen narrative, such as Patrick Gibson, who plays Nikolai Lantsov in the show. Given that the mystery drama is getting more popular each day, some fans begin to wonder if its stars have the desire to pursue other major franchises.

Sirius XM's Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie talked to Gibson and Jurassic World Dominion star Sam Neill, who co-starred in The Portable Door (2023). Both actors were asked if they wanted to take on any roles at Marvel Studios. “I'll just go see and take whatever they give me at this stage,” said Gibson. Meanwhile, Neill expressed the opposite, saying he “has no real ambitions in the Marvel world.”

However, if given the chance to take any roles, the co-stars still have some answers. The Jurassic Park star joked that he could be flying around or shrinking like Ant-Man. Gibson is leaning toward playing a miniature hero. Neil noted he would like some clarity as his superpower, “I tend to want this as a superpower, to know which planet you're on in a Marvel film,” he said.

Gibson’s Nikolai in the Shadow and Bone is a dark man who has spent years hiding his identity as the previous king of Ravka. Nikolai trusts the primary character Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) enough to reveal his real name when he joins her to become one of her allies. Despite just arriving this season, the character appeared in all eight episodes of Season 2, hinting at a significant role he will soon be showcased in the adaptation.

The 27-year-old actor has been acting since 2002, but his role in the historical hit drama The Tudors made him recognizable. He also appeared as Curly in Neverland, a British miniseries that retells the saga of Peter Pan (Charlie Rowe), Captain Hook (Rhys Ifans), and Tinkerbell (Keira Knightley) through a slightly darker lens. As he becomes more known in S&B, fans are hoping to see more of him anywhere else.

Shadow and Bone seasons 1 and 2 are streaming on Netflix.
