Patricia Allison recently announced her departure from the Netflix hit show Sex Education to pursue other career opportunities. Allison's Ola had an eventful character arc starting from Otis' ex-girlfriend and then, later on, discovered that she is bi-sexual and opened up another romantic chapter with Lily Iglehart, starring Tanya Reynolds.
Lily's arc was also active after attempting to have intercourse with several guys at school but suddenly realized that she is into women after meeting Ola. Although their relationship was more problematic because they were still exploring their sexuality, they somehow made it work and became regulars for the show.
Sadly, it looks like we won't be seeing the continuation of their relationship after Tanya Reynolds also announced her departure from Sex Education ahead of Season 4.
“I’m not [returning], actually, which is sad, very sad," Reynolds told Radio Times. "It’s just the natural progression of these shows – when you have such big ensemble casts and so many characters, I think you have to let a few older characters go to make way for newer ones, which is absolutely the right thing, the way it should happen.”
With two key characters out, it's hard not to wonder how Sex Education Season 4 would transpire. Ola and Lily's relationship serves as a prominent aspect of the show as it offers the audience a point-of-view on how same-sex relationships usually work. However, just like what Reynolds uttered, their exit paves the way for the new ones, which means that there are new additions with the upcoming fourth season. Of course, it would still feel different without them.
More sad news, Sex Education Season 4 has been delayed and is highly unlikely to premiere on Netflix this 2022. According to a report, the fourth season will commence filming this July 2022 but hasn't disclosed a comprehensive timeline. With that said, it could possibly arrive in the last quarter of 2022 or most probably in early 2023.
