The final issue of Robert Kirkman's long-running Invincible comic book series comes out today and it's expected to be very emotional. Starting out as a fun superhero comic with more twists (and gore) than usual, it eventually became more experimental in the end, even ditching the whole superhero theme by the end. With a film coming out soon, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have shared some of their plans for the upcoming adaptation.
During an interview with Mashable, Rogen and Goldberg discussed how they will be adapting the popular Image series into the big screen. Rather than cramming 144 issues into one whole movie, the two revealed that they will be adapting the "classic" story of Invincible. This means we will be seeing Mark Grayson get his powers and use them for good.
"We are definitely telling the classic story of Invincible, and we are doing some directorial things that will make it more dynamic than just the straight-up story. We've come up with some conventions that I think will make it a more cinematic experience that fits in the timeframe more. But we're not reinventing the wheel here, we're not going to massively change Invincible. The core story of that comic and the core characters are what makes it great."
Both of them also discussed the amazing twist that happens early on in the series. Fans familiar with the comics know that Grayson's father Omni-Man is only playing hero and is actually planning to conquer the planet for the Viltrumite race. This causes a huge rift between the two and it will be interesting to see how the film adapts this.
"I think it is so rare that there's twists and plot that actually work. It really is one of the best parts of the comic, that there are reveals that actually function as giant reveals that you really don't see coming."
No release date for the Invincible film has been revealed yet.
