Sesame Street Loses Lawsuit Against The Happytime Murders

R-rated Muppet movie, The Happytime Murders had recently gone under fire from Sesame Street who was accusing the film of tarnishing the brand by using the tagline "No Sesame. All Street." It looks like the court doesn't seem to mind the tagline, as Sesame Street had just lost their case.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, US District Judge Vernon Broderick ruled that The Happytime Murders can keep their tagline given that the Sesame Workshop had no evidence that moviegoers were confused or that sponsors of parents were complaining.

It's weird that Sesame Street would sue The Happytime Muders as the director Brian Henson is the son of Sesame Street veteran and Muppet creator Jim Henson. Not only did Jim Henson create the Muppets, he was also an avid performer and provided the voice of several characters, most notably Kermit the Frog.

As for Brian Henson himself, he's directed classic Muppet films like The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppets Treasure Island. He's even played characters on Sesame Street back in the 80s.

For now, The Happytime Murders seems to be safe. I have a feeling that the complaints would come in eventually, but the lawsuit has already come and gone. We'll just have to wait for the movie to come out.

The Happytime Murders is set to come out Aug. 17.
