Sebastian Stan Is Still Hopeful About Playing Young Luke Skywalker

Before the second season finale of The Mandalorian aired, there were speculations that Sebastian Stan will be showing up as young Luke Skywalker. Of course, as we all know now, it didn't end up happening as they decided to use the de-aging technology on Mark Hamill with Max Lloyd-Jone as the stand-in in order to bring back the character in his post-Return of the Jedi years.

In an "Explain This" video on Esquire's YouTube channel, Stan addressed the past speculations regarding the possibility of his casting as young Luke Skywalker. "Look, it's really kind. Never say never," he said. "Mark Hamill is my father, you know, and he knows that, and I call him every Christmas to tell him, 'Just want you to know I'm around.' It's really terrifying."

For now, it looks like it is unlikely that we will ever get to see Stan play a young Luke Skywalker since the current Disney+ shows have iterated that they are going to use the de-aging technology when it comes to bringing the character and they won't be recasting it with another actor anytime soon.

However, there is still a chance for Lucasfilm to decide that they will be casting a new actor for the character especially once they do shows that are set in the later years where the de-aging technology might not be enough to bring him in that era. After all, Stan is already in the Disney family thanks to his MCU role and it also seems like Hamill has his blessing if ever he overtakes the role.

After his surprise appearance in the second season finale of The Mandalorian, Luke Skywalker made his return in the recent episode of The Book of Boba Fett titled "From the Desert Comes a Stranger" where we saw him train Grogu and interact with Ahsoka Tano. It remains to be seen if he will be seen again in the finale or in a future Star Wars show.
