Seb McKinnon's Magic: The Gathering Damnation Painting Sells For $30,000


Last Saturday, November 28, 2020, Seb McKinnon's original acryltic on canvas painting of Damnation was sold on the MTG Art Market for $30,000 The brand new Magic: The Gathering art is one of his four works featured in the recently-announced Artist Series: Seb McKinnonSecret Lair drop.

McKinnon's version of Damnation is a work of acrylic on canvas measuring 16 inches by 20 inches. The legendary artist chose Damnation to be one of the four cards for the new Secret Lair drop. The other cards he illustrated for the Secret Lair were include a full-art Swamp, Sower of Temptation, and Enchanted Evening, and all of them are connected to tell a story, as he said in his behind-the-scenes post on Twitter. The acrylic painting was completed digitally for card publication, and varies slightly from the original piece.

The art was sold in an auction, and most of the private bidders pushed the price to $20,000, and it ultimately was sold for $30,000 to a private collector.

Damnation by Seb McKinnon was inspired by Hieronymus Bosch, and it's definitely one of the most memorable MTG artworks released this year.

The Seb McKinnon Secret Lair will be available for preorder from Nov. 30 to Dec. 14.
