Scarlett Johansson Says She's Done Playing Black Widow

Marvel Studios might have been slowly introducing its new Avengers, but MCU fans surely miss Scarlett Johansson, who’s part of the original ensemble as Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, especially after her brutal death in Avengers: Endgame.

Even if the Russian assassin has been seen again in her 2021 standalone film. The actress recently revealed to Variety that she is done playing the MCU hero. “I’m done,” Johansson said. “Chapter is over. I did all that I had to do. Also coming back and playing a character again and again, over a decade, is such a unique experience.”

The Lucy star also set the record straight along with MCU co-star Gwyneth Paltrow, who plays Pepper Potts they were in a feud during Iron Man 2. “People ask me, ‘Is it true that you and Scarlett Johansson didn’t get along on ‘Iron Man’?” said Paltrow.

“Is that a rumor?” Johansson responded. “You were so nice to me in that movie. I was so petrified. You were so nice to me! You could’ve been awful. I was so out of my comfort zone in that movie. I’d never done anything like that before. Plus, you have established such deep friendships.”

Despite Johansson’s versatility, she became more popular because of her superhero stint. Rachel McAdams recently revealed that she was offered the role of Black Widow, but she declined. While it was also reported before that Emily Blunt was also a candidate for the role before the Don Jon actress.

Johansson said in a previous interview that she was glad being the second option led to her career growth. “The best call you can receive is after you are rejected for something, and then you get it. You appreciate it more. I’ve basically made a career out of being a second choice.”

The Lost in Translation star asked Paltrow if she was willing to return for more MCU projects, and Paltrow answered, "I think so. I mean, I didn’t die, so they can always ask me." Paltrow's Pepper Potts was last seen in Avengers: Endgame after her long-term partner Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, died.
