Scarlett Johansson Says Black Widow Wouldn't Have Wanted a Funeral in Avengers: Endgame

Black Widow will supposedly be coming to theaters this November and fans are quite happy to have some form of MCU content this year. The movie should be a good one, though the fact that it's set after Civil War and is coming out after Natasha died in Avengers: Endgame has made a couple of fans sour on it. A lot of fans are also still upset that Natasha didn't get a proper funeral at the end of Endgame but her actress says the character wouldn't have wanted one.

During an interview with Empire, Black Widow director Cate Shortland revealed that actress Scarlett Johansson told her that the character wouldn't have wanted a funeral. Despite being the new face of S.H.I.E.L.D during the time jump from Infinity War to Endgame, the character was always a bit private and only ever considered The Avengers as her family, along with her actual family in her solo film of course. Assuming they all live through it.

"In Endgame, the fans were upset that Natasha did not have a funeral. Whereas Scarlett, when I spoke to her about it, said Natasha wouldn't have wanted a funeral. She's too private, and anyway, people don't really know who she is. So what we did in this film was allow the ending to be the grief the individuals felt, rather than a big public outpouring. I think that's a fitting ending for her."

We're sure that this debate will go on and on since Natasha really made an impact on fans. Many of us witnessed her grow to become quite the character, from simple eye-candy to a fleshed-out woman who has a hard time forgiving herself due to all of her past actions. Seeing her get a solo film is long overdue and I can't wait for it.
