Keanu Reeves might have given an exceptional performance as Neo in the seminal science fiction action movie The Matrix, but did you know that the producers of the film originally wanted Miss Congeniality's Sandra Bullock to play the role?

Lorenzo di Bonaventura, one of The Matrix's producers, just recently spoke in an interview with The Wrap. During his discussion with the entertainment news outlet, the producer confirmed that there were early plans to have Sandra Bullock play the role of Neo, the computer hacker eventually destined to be "The One" who frees humanity from the enslavement of robots.

"We went out to so many people I don't remember. We were getting desperate," di Bonaventura revealed, "We went to Sandy Bullock and said, ‘We'll change Neo to a girl.' [Producer] Joel Silver and I worked with Sandy on Demolition Man and she was and continues to be a very good friend of mine. It was pretty simple. We sent her the script to see if she was interested in it. And if she was interested in it we would try to make the change."

However, the direction for the film was only briefly considered by the producers.

"it just wasn't something for her at the time. So really it didn't go anywhere," di Bonaventura noted.

Good thing too. The producers made a great call casting Reeves in the film. The actor was perfect for the seemingly unassuming role, and when he turns into "The One," he really does bring a whole lot of kick-ass action to the big screen. His acting added to every component of the film which perfectly played off one another.
