Sandra Bullock Calls Ghostbusters 2016 Backlash 'Unfair'

The all-female Ghostbusters (2016) saw a lot of backlash from fans even before it came out, and the same thing is happening with Ocean's 8 starring Sandra Bullock. With her movie also getting bashed for "rebooting" a franchise with just women, Bullock comments one of the worst-received films of 2016.

Talking to Variety, Bullock said:

"That was unfair on a level that I can't even not be mad about talking about. They literally walked into a firing squad. You had five of the most gifted comedian actresses on the planet — I'm just gonna leave it at that. And it doesn't just take five people to make a movie. It takes about 300, so, you know what? Let's back off the meanness. Let's have a year of kindness. The women are here — we're not going anywhere. But this isn't about just women. We like sitting at the table with men. We just want to be invited to their table as well because we like them at our table."

Though personally I thought the movie was terrible, it's understandable that Bullock would be upset about the way the women were being treated before the movie came out. With a franchise like Ghostbusters, a lot of fans online were expressing their rage that the property was getting a reboot in the first place, and they also claimed that the all-female cast was some sort of Feminist agenda push.

Personally, I walked into the theater with high hopes. I liked everyone in the cast, and I wanted to see what they could bring to the reboot. I was just ultimately disappointed with the execution; not to mention that terrible Fallout Boy version of the theme song.

For now, Bullock's Ocean's 8 is getting some lukewarm reviews; nothing too terrible, but nothing great either. We'll just have to see what the audience thinks when the film releases in theaters June 8.
